This is an old revision of the document!
To prepare for the actual AP exam in May, we will be using several practice exams from the College Board in the next few months, starting with the Qtr 3 Exam. The AP exam in May will have two parts: 42 Multiple choice (90 minutes, worth 55% of your score) and 4 Free Response Questions (90 min worth 45% of your score). This year's AP exam is on your chromebook. This years Qtr 3 Exam will be taken on paper in three parts. Part 1 will be on our last classduring the World Language Exam in whatever room Fr Chris will be proctoring (last quarter was room 204), You will be able to use the Java Quick Reference that the College Board will provide for you in May.
The Qtr 3 Exam is a cumulative exam that covers the entire course from the summer assignment until Unit 4 of the College Board's Course and Exam Description (CED),
- UNIT 1: Using Objects and Methods
- UNIT 2: Selection and Iteration
- UNIT 3: Class Creation
- UNIT 4: Data Collections
Like before, the test will be curved. The AP Exam usually awards a passing grade of 3 for 50% correct, a 4 for 65% correct, and a top score of 5 for 75% correct, One way to think of it is an A is 3 correct for every incorrect, a B is 2 correct for every incorrect, and a C for 1 correct for every incorrect.
You have 90 minutes to answer 4 Free Response Questions (a total of 25 points worth 45% of your score):

You have 90 minutes to answer 42 Multiple Choice Questions worth 55% of your score.
Part 1: Will be on the second to last class of the quarter, taken on paper, much like we did with our first practice exam. You will have 51 (or 76) minutes to answer the first 2 Free Response questions. representing 22.5% of your Qtr 3 Exam score.
Part 2: Will be on the last class of the quarter, also on paper, much like we did with our first practice exam. You will have 40 (or 60) minutes to answer the last 2 Free Response questions, representing 22.5% of your Qtr 3 Exam score.
Part 3: Will be taken during the World Language Exam during Finals Week. It too will be taken on paper, much like our first practice exam. The Multiple choice portion of the exam will have 90 (or 135) minutes to answer 42 questions, representing 55% of your score.
It is a good idea to review the Labs and old exam questions that we have done throughout the year. For three years now, AP Classroom has done an 8 Part Course Review. To find them, here is a screenshot. You may wish to watch them on YouTube where they have link to download the questions, like this one
Another good way to review the multiple choice is Chapter 13 of Runestone, and the FRQs at Chapter 14-15 of Runestone.
Yet another good way to review the free response questions is to write your answers on your computer, and test out your solutions with the tester code here.
Don't forget that you don't need a computer to practice writing code at javabat.com and CodeStepByStep.com.
myAP.collegeboard.org (AP Classroom) Also has Daily Videos on all the topics we have covered this year.
Your actual AP Exam will be Wednesday May 8, 2024 at 12 PM PDT.
Finally, please remember to get a good night's rest and a healthy breakfast!
Good Luck!
